Basic Skills Group Lessons

The Vacationland FIgure Skating Club (VFSC) Learn to Skate Program consists of a 30-minute group lesson by our professional staff. Classes are offered to skaters who are 3 years old to adult. The season runs September 7th through March 1st on Sunday evenings. VFSC uses the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) Basic Skills Program for Learn-to-Skate classes. Our program encourages ice skating at all levels and is designed to keep students excited about skating from the time they begin until they achieve their goals. New this year...each skater will receive an embroidered badge for each class level completed.

Learn to Skate classes are highly recommended for the beginning skater to learn the basic fundamentals of ice skating. As a skater advances through the USFSA Basic Skills Program and the skating maneuvers become more difficult, bridge class and/or private lessons may be used to supplement the group lessons. Skaters who have either passed the levels in the USFS Basic Skills/Learn to Skate Program, have a desire to compete or just want to pursue a higher level of skating can join Junior Club.

Interested skaters are eligible to compete in any of several Basic Skills Competitions in our area watch for competition opportunities posted at the rink and on the website!

Snowplow Sam

The “Snowplow Sam” program is designed for pre-school age children. It helps to develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on skates. Some of the elements in this section are the same as those in the Basic Skills levels, but the degree to which the skater is expected to perform the elements is to a much lesser extent. A few children in this age range may be prepared to begin at the Basic 1 level. Time with Snowplow Sam will allow pre-school children to be comfortable on the ice at a level with their physical development.

This program is designed to be an addition to either the Basic Skills/Freeskate group lessons or the Jr Club Private Instruction.

Junior Club

It is recommended that skaters enter the our Junior Club program once they have passed at least Basic Three in the Basic Skills program. Jr Club provides an opportunity for advanced private instruction from the coach of your choice. Skaters and parents should meet the VFSC coaches who are available for private lessons and observe coaching styles before choosing a coach.
